The Single Equality Scheme is availale to download or to view online
As a public body within the NHS the PCT is committed to taking positive steps to ensure fair and equitable access to services for all. As a commissioner and provider of services we need to be pro active so that we can meet the changing needs of diverse communities and provide fair access for all in an environment where dignity and individuality is respected and promoted. As an employer we will create an organisational culture in which diversity is valued and staff feel able to promote equality and challenge unlawful discrimination.
It is intended that the Scheme will respond to our statutory duties as set out in the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 and the Equality Act 2006. However the spirit of the scheme is also extended to include protection against discrimination on the grounds of age, sexual orientation and religion or belief. With an integrated approach we aim to develop a holistic view of equality, diversity and human rights across the organisation, building upon work that we have already done in respect of race and disability equality.
We believe that this Scheme describes our vision and the actions that we need to take to achieve this vision. We also believe that the intentions of this Scheme will ensure that local commissioning arrangements and new NHS structures for the provision of primary care will respond to the need for promoting equality and diversity, including human rights.
We do welcome your continued views about the scheme and our progress over the three years covered by the scheme. Feedback can be sent by post to:
