Dr James Thallon

Cluster lead on independent contractor performance and commissioning.

James Thallon was appointed as Medical Director of NHS West Kent in May 2007.

James studied History at Cambridge University and worked in the City as an investment analyst for a fund management company before studying medicine in London as a mature student.

He was a GP partner in Tunbridge Wells for 11 years and is now a salaried GP for two sessions per week at the same practice, supplemented by some regular evening sessions for the GP Out-of-Hours service.

James has recently been seconded as Associate Medical Director to NHS South East Coast for one day per week providing advice and leadership to the development of GP commissioning consortia as well as GP revalidation across the region. As one of three medical directors for the PCT cluster, James will lead on primary care contracting and commissioning, independent contractor professional issues, as well as managing decision-making on rare or highly individual requests for treatment. James has four children and lives in Tunbridge Wells.
