The future of healthcare in Medway

Introducing the NHS Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (MCG)

Under the government’s reforms to the NHS, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will be responsible for commissioning the majority of healthcare for Medway residents as early as April 2013.

NHS Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (MCG) will work alongside NHS Kent and Medway and will gradually assume responsibility for planning and commissioning healthcare between now and April 2013. It will operate in shadow form until April 2013 when, subject to parliamentary approval, it will take over complete responsibility and the Primary Care Trust will cease to exist.

From April 2013, the MCG will receive its budget from a national body called the NHS Commissioning Board and will work with local people and organisations, including Medway Council and providers of health and social care, to plan and pay for health services for Medway residents.

We want to become a truly listening, communicating and engaging organisation, supporting people to understand more about their health and by actively incorporating feedback into commissioning decisions. One of the ways MCG as done this is through the creation of its Patient Council.
