GP scorecards (2009-10)

GP Scorecards indicate how GP practices in NHS Kent and Medway are performing and how each practice compares with national targets and local achievement.

Dr Peter Green, Medway GP and NHS Medway’s Medical Director says “We welcome this first publication of the Scorecard. Importantly, it gives practices and patients the opportunity to see how GP practices in the area are working. It allows patients to access practice information and gives practices target areas in which to improve and develop. We hope that everyone in Medway will find the scorecards useful.”

‘Locality’ on the scorecard refers to the geographical groupings of practices seen below, i.e. the average for the Chatham locality.

Important information

It is important to remember that this is just a sample of the work carried out by our GP practices, and there will often be reasons why a result doesn’t look as you’d expect.

For example, many practices did not meet the 2009-10 national target for flu vaccinations for those aged 65 and over.

There is likely to be a good reason for this; practices experienced additional pressure to also vaccinate patients for swine flu. Not only was this to keep those patients needing the vaccination healthy, but also to help prevent a potential swine flu pandemic.

Over 65s were not a priority for swine flu vaccination, unless having a specified disease.
