Safeguarding adults

The Medway Community Healthcare safeguarding adults team specialises in advising staff and colleagues on safeguarding issues.

In accordance with Department of Health guidance' No Secrets (2000) the team works together in partnership with all the statutory bodies in Medway and across Kent, ensuring that appropriate policies, procedures, and practices are in place and implemented locally.

  • It is everyone's responsibility to report abuse, if known or suspected to be occurring.
  • It is every adult's right to live free from abuse in accordance with the principles of respect, dignity, autonomy, privacy and equality.

National Assistance Act (1948)

The National Assistance Act (1948) is available to protect vulnerable adults in appropriate circumstances. It provides information regarding placements in care homes or care homes providing nursing care, that, within reason, individuals are able to exercise genuine choice over where they live.
