The new collection features original dishes that were submitted to the healthy living campaign, A Better Medway, by members of the public. All the dishes are simple, inexpensive and encourage healthy eating, such as turkey stir fry, tuna fishcakes, low fat cheesecake and roast squash, leek and cheese pasta.
The recipe cards will be launched alongside a series of cooking roadshows at events across Medway, where visitors will be able to sample a selection of the dishes cooked by a community chef.
The events will be held at:
-
Saturday, 11 February 2012 - Strood Market, Commercial Road car park
-
Monday, 13 February 2012 - Gillingham Market, Gillingham High Street

Each recipe featured in the Medway Cooks! Recipe Collection encourages healthy eating, costs less than £10 to make and can be prepared, cooked and served within an hour.
More than 3,500 copies of the first edition of Medway Cooks! were distributed in Medway to inspire families to cook healthy, low cost meals.
Medway’s Director of Public Health, Dr Alison Barnett, hopes the second edition will be just as popular.
She said: “Medway’s Director of Public Health, Dr Alison Barnett, says: “The first edition of Medway Cooks was a great success and helped more than 5,000 people learn how to cook healthy and affordable meals.
“This second edition offers an even wider variety of recipes to help you maintain a healthy weight and improve your long-term health and wellbeing.”
There are 5,000 copies of the new free collection available from Medway’s children’s centres and libraries and online at www.abettermedway.co.uk/medwaycooks where you can also get tips on a balanced diet, getting your five-a-day and understanding food labelling. You can also request a copy by emailing change4life@medway.gov.uk
Medway Cooks! is produced by A Better Medway’s Community Food Team, which is a joint healthy living partnership between NHS Kent and Medway and Medway Council.
