What we do

NHS Medway plans and pays for NHS healthcare for everyone that lives in Medway.

As the primary care trust for Medway, we lead the local NHS.

Our aim is to improve health outcomes, improve patient experience, and improve value for money.

Our budget for 2010/11 was £448million. We are responsible for using that money in the best possible way for the 268,400 people we serve – those who live within our boundary, plus others just over the border who are registered with Medway GPs.

Vision and values

Our vision is for a healthy, safe and productive population in Medway where:

  • people are empowered to take control of their own well-being
  • individuals and communities have access to the very best quality of healthcare

Our values include

  • respect and dignity
  • commitment to quality of care
  • compassion
  • improving lives
  • working together for patients
  • everyone counts

These are the shared values of the NHS and are set out in the NHS Constitution, which became law in January 2010.

Legacy document

National Quality Board guidance identifies the need for “a robust system of handover that effectively captures and transfers organisational memory” for use during NHS transition. The guidance requires each outgoing NHS organisation to produce a transition document.
