Infection, prevention and control

Prevention and control of infections is taken very seriously in Medway.

As leader of the local NHS, NHS Medway is rigorous about monitoring and holding to account all the services it commissions to provide care to people in Medway. These include the hospital, the mental health trust and community services.

Our role

The infection prevention and control team are responsible for monitoring and holding to account the services NHS Medway commissions and works with them to ensure a constant focus on improvement.

The team

Holds regular hygiene training for staff:

  • Monitors and ensures best practice is always followed
  • Works to reduce the prescribing of high-risk antibiotics
  • Analyses every case where a patient develops MRSA or C. difficle, examining the cause and outcome.
