As part of a GP’s appraisal, key development objectives are set out. These objectives may cover aspects such as personal development needs to address patient needs, training goals, Continuing Medical Education and Continuous Professional Development.
The GP has several methods of learning, e.g. on-line learning modules and interactive discussion through group education within the practice or attendance at arranged educational events.
Whatever format of learning, the GP is entitled to “Protected Learning Time”. NHS Medway runs, on a monthly basis, a Protected Learning Time half day event to allow GPs to use this time effectively to cover the developmental needs described above.
All surgeries receive notices which are displayed within their premises advising patients of half –day closures and NHS Medway provide MedOCC cover for EMERGENCY cases whilst the surgeries are shut.
