GP Protected Learning Time

As part of a GP’s appraisal, key development objectives are set out. These objectives may cover aspects such as personal development needs to address patient needs, training goals, Continuing Medical Education and Continuous Professional Development.

The GP has several methods of learning, e.g. on-line learning modules and interactive discussion through group education within the practice or attendance at arranged educational events.

Whatever format of learning, the GP is entitled to “Protected Learning Time”. NHS Medway runs, on a monthly basis, a Protected Learning Time half day event to allow GPs to use this time effectively to cover the developmental needs described above.

All surgeries receive notices which are displayed within their premises advising patients of half –day closures and NHS Medway provide MedOCC cover for EMERGENCY cases whilst the surgeries are shut.

If a date has not been arranged for a particular training course required, please fill in the application form above and mark the date as 'tba'. This will ensure your place on the waiting list and once enough staff fill the list a course will be arranged and dates confirmed.
