Following a review of its membership, MCG decided to reduce the number of GPs on its Board from 10 to six during a consultation with practices at the GP Monthly. As part of this process, five GPs took the decision to stand down from their Board responsibilities.
The members of the Board are:
-
Dr Peter Green, Shadow Accountable Officer
-
Dr Nathan Nathan, GP Board member
-
Dr Shariq Lanker, GP Board member/locality link for Rochester and Strood
-
Dr Gill Fargher, GP Board member/ locality link for Gillingham and Rainham
-
Dr Manpreet Pujara, GP Board member/ locality link for Chatham
These positions were confirmed following an external competency-based interview process. Board portfolio responsibilities are being reviewed and will be finalised by the end of May. Three of the board members will also be a link for a locality group and will attend locality meetings.
In order to bring the board up to full capacity of GP members, in line with the agreement at the GP monthly in February, a sixth Board member will now be recruited. Further information will be circulated to member practices.
The GP Board members will be supported by other clinicians in newly-created Clinical Programme Lead posts. The clinical leads will provide clinical leadership and ensure clinical engagement within a programme area working alongside the commissioning managers to ensure pathways are improved plans delivered and outcomes achieved. Applicants are in the process of being interviewed and are expected to be appointed in June.
MCG is now operating in shadow form as it works towards authorisation and taking over full responsibility for commissioning health services for all Medway residents. This is expected by April 2013.
